I expected Hong Kong to be like a western city, a reproduction of an Asian London. I was so wrong. Only 11% of the populaion speaks English which to me is incredible when you think that Hong Kong was surrended to China in 1997. Although the island of Hong Kong is a forest of skyscrapers, there is more to Hong Kong than a modern city. We stayed in a very typical area called Sham Shui Po. It is a huge vibrant market place, a myriad of colours, smells, neon signs. We couldn't have chosen a better place. ..
